The Bistro @ Cascades

At least once a week, the usual text circulates amongst my neighborhood gang with the word “Cascades”, and with empty bellies we descend upon its generous terrace for a wonderfully¬†unpretentious, relaxed meet. It’s the kind of place you can sit for hours at – whether it be for breakfast, a lazy lunch, early dinner or just a few glasses of wine – The Bistro @ Cascades on the Promenade is one of the most welcoming and consistently satisfying restaurants Cape Town has to offer.

Situated a block up from the promenade on quiet Arthurs Road, customers can appreciate the sea views without the perpetual drone of traffic along Beach Road. In the afternoons it’s particularly glorious to sit out on the terrace and soak up the warm winter sun with my pup at my feet – yes you read right – it’s dog friendly! Mind to dress warmly if you go for breakfast, as the sun only reaches the terrace in the afternoon – however, they have provided for this with customers being given their own fleece blankets to wear as they wish.

What I love most about The Bistro – besides the smiley, attentive and unobtrusive service – ¬†is that it doesn’t matter what meal I order, it is always delicious. Soups, salads, sandwiches, pastries, pastas, burgers, breakfasts (I’ve had them all!) – are beautifully presented and made with the freshest ingredients.

The delightful ever-present owner, who is of European origin (my guess is Belgian), is such a pleasure to engage with and makes you feel like you are reclining in her own open home. Cascades on the Promenade also happens to be a 4 star boutique hotel – so if you are looking for a great recommendation in the heart of Sea Point – this is it.
